Monster Mash.

Happy Halloween! Tomorrow, on actual Halloween, I’ll post another spook-tacular comic. In terms of updating on a regular basis, midterms are pretty much done, and I’ve almost recovered from the flu. In other words, with school and these mortal curses out of the way, I should be able to update regularly.

Love is in the Air.

The thrilling conclusion, kinda! More characters, more questions, and more lovesick drama with a mix o’ humour!

I really enjoyed drawing this comic, although inking everything was a bitch — especially when my hand and arm were a little shakey after drinking a lot of caffeine (damn your delicious addictiveness, Full Throttle!). The guns, in particular, were really fun to draw just because drawing firearms asserts my masculine and violent side.

Other small details:

  • The boarded up hole in the guys’ apartment is a result of a giant, toaster-headed robot breaking through the wall.
  • The “Doran” sound in the fourth panel is a tribute to fellow cartoonist, Pat Doran.
  • Both Kyle and reincarnated ZCC are visible in Chris’s photo, indicating that Chris and Lizzy have retained their friendship after “The Rules of Attraction” Storyline (in which Lizzy hardly makes an appearance after its conclusion).
  • There is a Broken Social Scene poster on Chris’s wall. I am seeing them tomorrow, and I am very excited.
  • I just started watching “Veronica Mars.” Damn you Christina and Shane!
  • Though I do want to slowly ease myself out of the usual college humor of my older comics, it’s obvious that all events still take place at my University, U of I.
  • Random, non-linear comics starting Friday (minus Randy of course), so stay tuned!

    Hiatus Daze #5.

    carcinogenic!
Sorry about Friday and today, but I realized I have a midterm. I must recapitulate that school — above all else, including delivering insulin to my grandmother — takes a priority. SO, Wednesday will feature the dramatic finale of “Love is in the Air.” THE SUSPENSE.

    Plan B.

Here’s a word of advice: never underestimate small, cute creatures with bows on their heads; they may be packing a rocket launcher.

Friday is the semi-spectacular conclusion to the Oakley Cupid/”Love is in the Air” storyline, which will probably raise more questions than a resolution.

I Saw The Sign (Or Pie).

Coincidentally, as I was drawing this comic, there was a History Channel documentary on Hell and Satan. I believe I saw a clip of Dave Grohl as the devil on there.

In other news, go watch The Departed. If Martin Scorsese doesn’t win an Oscar this year, then the Academy can suck a fuck.

    …but how do you suck a fuck…?

    Cherub Downe.

Sorry for the delay. A certain coffee-shop manager had my sketchbook, in which she ransomed it for 100 dollars and my formula for eternal life. Next time you see Christina Head, remember the only way to kill her is to chop off her Head (Head, get it?)

So I introduced a new character, Cherub Downe. She’s the young, overly cute and adorable intern of Oakley Cupid who talks with a heavy lisp and wears a Rambo-style headband. She was definitely a fun character to develop, and hopefully you’ll enjoy her as this particular storyline progresses.

Also, this comic marks the reintroduction of Chris and his crew. For those of you who’ve missed the human aspects of the comics, don’t worry; they — under Oakley, Nigel, and Randy’s meddling — all have a major role in the future.

    Old Time’s Sake.

The last time Nigel and Randy were at Yurkanigan’s was when they had to deal with Jimmy the Voice of Indifference and Apathy. Coincidentally, Oakley Cupid — like Jimmy — is another metaphysical being that have crossed paths with Nigel and Randy.

Now, if you don’t know this or you’re just as dull and dim-witted as a rock, “Yurkanigan’s” is a cross between the restaurant chain, “Bennigan’s” and my old, DI comic buddy, Matt Yurkanin. He wrote the strip “Thoughtless” back in what I consider the “Golden Age” of Daily Illini comics. You can check out his old strips here at Collegiate Comics.

    A Better Angel.

So after two-months-and-a-half of complete and utter withdrawal from this site, I’ve decided to update. University’s back in session, so I’ve been focusing on settling myself in and concentrating on attaining my degree in the spring. Even though that’s no excuse to a few of you who want me to be an undergrad for the next 6 years (I’m looking in your general direction, Tim), my time and effort have shifted from making funny shit for the public to pleasing my professors and teachers. Sorry.

As such, I’ve decided — from now on — to make all the comics black and white; coloring takes too much time, and besides, who can’t appreciate my relatively fine pen work? Although the comics won’t be in color anymore, I still plan to update every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. You can bet your bottom dollar that I’ll keep this promise — which I encourage, since I am short on cash as well.

And for those of you who’ve forgotten the storyline thus far, browse through these:

    #1: “It’s Almost Summer.”
    #2: “Just Us Rabbits.”
    #3: “Oakley Cupid.”
    #4: “FUCK ALL Y’ALL BLOGS!”
    #5: “Nigel, Interrupted.”
