Tindering.

Originally, I was going to publish this on Valentine’s Day, but I was too preoccupied eating heart-shaped pizza and donuts alone in my apartment. Nonetheless, here’s Nigel, Verona Red, and appropriately Oakley Cupid messing around on Tinder. In case you don’t know what Tinder is, it’s a mobile dating app that allows you to like or reject prospective dates with a swipe of a finger. It’s all really based on physical looks (though it pulls data from your Facebook account), and if you ask me it’s a pretty superficial way to meet someone. Despite that, it’s a pretty interesting game to play with a group of friends.

“How’d you and Daddy meet?”

“We hooked up on Tinder.”

Valentine’s Day Cards 2008.

Here are the Valentine’s Day cards for this year, and if you haven’t noticed, you can find the last four years’ worth of VD cards to the left of this page in two printable PDFs. You can also download a printable, colored PDF version of the 2008 Valentine’s right here: VD 2008 (5.7MB).

And if you just want to see the previous Valentine’s Day comics, simply click this link.

New comic tomorrow, so stay tuned. HVD, folks… that means “Happy Valentine’s Day”, not a new sexually-transmitted cervical disease.

Occupational Hazards.

Part 1 of the “Occupational Hazards” Story Arc.

Yes, I am going to draw comics full-time again now that I no longer have to worry about school (although finding a real, professional job may take some importance — but not really). As such, this entire storyline revolves around the search, the discovery, and the trials of working. The arc will tie up some loose ends from other arcs, create new plot threads, bring back some old characters, and introduce new ones. I have a lot in store for this comic, so be prepared… or afraid…. well, whatever emotion comes naturally to you.

And Happy Birthday to TWLSB Friend, Tom and fellow cartoonist, Marty. May old age bring wisdom and happiness to your remaining years.

A Blind Date’s Shortcomings.

T.O.E. is a caricature of my friend Lil’ Tim — an electrical engineering grad student from Memphis (hence the slight Southern accent) who’s into death metal and is (surprisingly) pretty short. It’s his birthday today, and I promised him that I’d finally draw a comic.

Love it, like it.

Sexaholics.

It’s been a while since Cyrus the Whiny Nuclear Engineer and Kelly the Nympho made an appearance. Anyhoo, this comic was supposed to be published on Monday as a pre-Valentine’s Day comic, but it took longer to ink than I expected. Plus the little hearts were a bitch to draw.

Cherub Downe.

Sorry for the delay. A certain coffee-shop manager had my sketchbook, in which she ransomed it for 100 dollars and my formula for eternal life. Next time you see Christina Head, remember the only way to kill her is to chop off her Head (Head, get it?)

So I introduced a new character, Cherub Downe. She’s the young, overly cute and adorable intern of Oakley Cupid who talks with a heavy lisp and wears a Rambo-style headband. She was definitely a fun character to develop, and hopefully you’ll enjoy her as this particular storyline progresses.

Also, this comic marks the reintroduction of Chris and his crew. For those of you who’ve missed the human aspects of the comics, don’t worry; they — under Oakley, Nigel, and Randy’s meddling — all have a major role in the future.

Oakley Cupid.

Now in GIF format! While messing around with the file types, I found out that publishing the comics in GIF format essentially provides the same picture quality at a smaller size.Oakley Cupid is a spoof of Ok Cupid, that quiz/online dating site whom so many MySpacers, LJers, and Xangaists put their quiz results on their blogs. As you can see, I wanted Oakley to be a combination of both Nigel and Randy. Oakley is an angel like Nigel, but his occupation includes sex, passion, and temptation — things Randy would appreciate. Other sources of inspiration include the following:
Molotov Cocktease from “Venture Bros.”
Kurt Russell.
Golobulus from GI Joe: The Movie.

Eye-patches are sexy.

It wasn’t easy trying to draw the machine gun (I even had to do some firearm research in order to get the facts straight), and drawing all those little hearts strained my hand a bit. I’m not asking for pity, but a reasonable amount of money wouldn’t be bad.

Duck Fucking.

I started this storyline over three years ago; I left the story unfinished midway through the Murphy’s Pub scenes. When I resumed drawing this story arc, I was forced to resort to Chris’s old design: brown-haired and with no hat. In this comic, however, I decided to use Chris’s current design with the hat.

Site-wise, the categories section is up and running. With the help of some awesome plugins by Hit or Miss and Polymorph, the categories are weighted just like Flickr Tags. Check it out!

Tying Up Loose Ends.

Again with the delays! What’s wrong with me? Anyway, it’s always fun to tie up loose ends. In other news, I — along with others — have a gallery opening this Thursday…

Grand Opening
7 pm – 9 pm
Thursday, May 4th
Wings Gallery
425 Fawell Blvd.
Glen Ellyn, IL 60137

The show runs through May 2006, and I’ll be showcasing a lot of my Sausage-Fest work. There will be refreshments and (if my package comes in on time), I’ll be giving away free buttons. This is your only chance, my friends, before I inflate the price and charge you all up the ass for Sausage-Fest buttons! SCROOGE MCDUCK!
