I Can Sing, Too!

Part 18 of the “Occupational Hazards” Story Arc.

Sorry about the pretty heavy text at the bottom of the comic; poor planning on my part.

So begins side story C of the “Occupational Hazards” arc: Jeffro and ZCC start a band (the other stories, of course, being Chris getting a job and the whole Nigel/Randy affair — and believe me, they’ll all intertwine eventually). So ZCC’s been a toaster for about 2 years already, and I felt it’s time to give him an entirely new body. It’s also been a long time since I’ve drawn his original human form, too, which was more enjoyable to draw than a toaster. Toaster’s are too easy.

And I hate to outright reveal the small, important details of any artistic piece, but do take note of all the black and the crows. They may have “symbolism” later.

Occupational Hazards.

Part 1 of the “Occupational Hazards” Story Arc.

Yes, I am going to draw comics full-time again now that I no longer have to worry about school (although finding a real, professional job may take some importance — but not really). As such, this entire storyline revolves around the search, the discovery, and the trials of working. The arc will tie up some loose ends from other arcs, create new plot threads, bring back some old characters, and introduce new ones. I have a lot in store for this comic, so be prepared… or afraid…. well, whatever emotion comes naturally to you.

And Happy Birthday to TWLSB Friend, Tom and fellow cartoonist, Marty. May old age bring wisdom and happiness to your remaining years.

Tim Is 24, I Guess…

It’s my friend Tim’s birthday, so I decided to draw a comic with him in it. There are a lot of inside jokes (engineering stuff, Little Tim’s short stature, etc), so I don’t expect everyone to find this comic drop-on-the-floor-LOL funny.

And don’t think for a second that I’m only drawing comics for friends’ birthdays — I’ll call you ignorant. It may seem that lately I’ve been drawing comics for special events, but COME NEXT MONDAY, I’m starting a new storyline. Furthermore, since I’m all gradu-amated, I’ll be churning out FIVE comics a week. You heard right, deaf-o! FIVE COMICS A WEEK.

…of course, that is until I find a job.

Sexaholics.

It’s been a while since Cyrus the Whiny Nuclear Engineer and Kelly the Nympho made an appearance. Anyhoo, this comic was supposed to be published on Monday as a pre-Valentine’s Day comic, but it took longer to ink than I expected. Plus the little hearts were a bitch to draw.

Love is in the Air.

The thrilling conclusion, kinda! More characters, more questions, and more lovesick drama with a mix o’ humour!

I really enjoyed drawing this comic, although inking everything was a bitch — especially when my hand and arm were a little shakey after drinking a lot of caffeine (damn your delicious addictiveness, Full Throttle!). The guns, in particular, were really fun to draw just because drawing firearms asserts my masculine and violent side.

Other small details:

  • The boarded up hole in the guys’ apartment is a result of a giant, toaster-headed robot breaking through the wall.
  • The “Doran” sound in the fourth panel is a tribute to fellow cartoonist, Pat Doran.
  • Both Kyle and reincarnated ZCC are visible in Chris’s photo, indicating that Chris and Lizzy have retained their friendship after “The Rules of Attraction” Storyline (in which Lizzy hardly makes an appearance after its conclusion).
  • There is a Broken Social Scene poster on Chris’s wall. I am seeing them tomorrow, and I am very excited.
  • I just started watching “Veronica Mars.” Damn you Christina and Shane!
  • Though I do want to slowly ease myself out of the usual college humor of my older comics, it’s obvious that all events still take place at my University, U of I.
  • Random, non-linear comics starting Friday (minus Randy of course), so stay tuned!

    Old Time’s Sake.

The last time Nigel and Randy were at Yurkanigan’s was when they had to deal with Jimmy the Voice of Indifference and Apathy. Coincidentally, Oakley Cupid — like Jimmy — is another metaphysical being that have crossed paths with Nigel and Randy.

Now, if you don’t know this or you’re just as dull and dim-witted as a rock, “Yurkanigan’s” is a cross between the restaurant chain, “Bennigan’s” and my old, DI comic buddy, Matt Yurkanin. He wrote the strip “Thoughtless” back in what I consider the “Golden Age” of Daily Illini comics. You can check out his old strips here at Collegiate Comics.

    A Better Angel.

So after two-months-and-a-half of complete and utter withdrawal from this site, I’ve decided to update. University’s back in session, so I’ve been focusing on settling myself in and concentrating on attaining my degree in the spring. Even though that’s no excuse to a few of you who want me to be an undergrad for the next 6 years (I’m looking in your general direction, Tim), my time and effort have shifted from making funny shit for the public to pleasing my professors and teachers. Sorry.

As such, I’ve decided — from now on — to make all the comics black and white; coloring takes too much time, and besides, who can’t appreciate my relatively fine pen work? Although the comics won’t be in color anymore, I still plan to update every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. You can bet your bottom dollar that I’ll keep this promise — which I encourage, since I am short on cash as well.

And for those of you who’ve forgotten the storyline thus far, browse through these:

    #1: “It’s Almost Summer.”
    #2: “Just Us Rabbits.”
    #3: “Oakley Cupid.”
    #4: “FUCK ALL Y’ALL BLOGS!”
    #5: “Nigel, Interrupted.”

    FUCK ALL Y’ALL BLOGS!

I’LL UPDATE WHENVEVER I WANT — which, luckily for you, is today. I’m continuing the whole “Oakley Cupid Introduction” story arc, starting with how Oakley lost his eye.

So what have I been doing during my unexpected absence? The usual, you know… drugs, sex, and marauding the streets with crowbars. I’ve also resumed working on the first official Sausage-Fest book, “Whiskey and Pills,” after my friend Allan kept asking me about it. It will definitely come out this late summer/fall since I have finally gathered all the comics I needed to include (for instance, the “Rules of Attraction” storyline). I’ve also decided to rework some of the material, like the cover and the written parts.

I’ve also drawn/pressed 7, 1-inch Sausage-Fest buttons. Now you can be stylish AND funny!

Once I get the store all set up, you can buy them for US$1.00 each or US$5.00 for all seven. More goodies, surprises, and news within the next following days, and I promise you, more art and comics!

    Goodnight, Goodnight (Just a Dream).

I admit the dialogue was inspired by the last episode of “Cowboy Bebop.”

Indie Rawk Jeffro’s Indie Rawk Blog has been updated, so check it out. And let’s not forget this.
